Both production processes and products developed by CBA are quality-certified by ISO. The products are divided into two different categories: fabricated products and cast products. They have large application either as raw materials or as finished products in all industry sectors.

A

Alloy

It is a material with metallic properties composed by two or more chemical elements, where one of them must be a metal.

Alumina

High purity aluminum oxide that, through the reduction process, originates metallic aluminum.

Anneling

Thermal treatment that seeks the softening of the product, therefore eliminating tensions caused by cold plastic deformation, or the effects of thermal treatments.

Anodization

It is a treatment, carried out through electrolytic processes, which covers the aluminum’s surface with an oxide film, turning it resistant to the action of the environment, ultraviolet rays and scratches, besides granting increased hardness and uniform esthetic beauty, without altering the qualities of the metal.
It can be made in the colors light champagne, champagne, light bronze, medium, dark and black.

B

Bauxite

It is the main mineral used in aluminum production. It is composed by a variety of substances, being aluminum oxide the main one, which has to be present in a minimum proportion of 30%, in order to have an economically viable production of aluminum.

Billet

It is a cylindrical aluminum bar destined to the extrusion process.

C

Casting

It is the metallurgic process of transformation of liquid aluminum into solid.

D

Ductility

It is a material’s capacity to suffer mechanical deformation without breaking.

E

Electrolytic reduction

Aluminum is produced through a process called electrolytic reduction. In it, alumina is separated into metallic aluminum and oxygen. After a great number of operations, liquid aluminum is produced, which is afterwards solidified becoming ingots.

Extrusion

It is the product obtained in the extrusion process.
It is the process of plastic deformation of an aluminum billet by its passage through a die with the contours of a section that is desired for a product. It is by the extrusion process that profiles are produced.

F

Flatness

Elimination of deformations occurred in plates or sheets, in order to obtain a flat product.

Frames

They are products used in civil construction.

H

Hardness

It is the resistance of a material to plastic deformation.

I

Ingot

It is a product cast in the reduction plant, which is destined to the production of other products through the rolling and extrusion processes.

P

Primary Aluminum

It is the metal obtained through the reduction process, or through the decomposition of aluminum compounds that have not been already transformed into any product, except for ingots.

Profiles

Products obtained from the extrusion process. They are ductile, with the same transversal section along their length.

R

Reflectivity

Aluminum has the capacity to reflect radio, radar and heat waves. A roof made of aluminum roof tiles can reflect about 95% of the heat produced by the sun.

Rolled Product

It is product obtained through a rolling process. Such products are divided in four categories, depending on their thickness: thick plate (more than 6.35 mm), plate (between 0.15 and 6.35 mm) and sheet (less than 0.15 mm). CBA’s rolled products can have standard, brilliant or engraved emboss - such as Stucco plates and Thread plates - finishing.

Rugosity

It is a normal irregularity on the plate’s surface caused by the rolling cylinders.

T

Thermal conductivity

It is the capacity to conduct heat. Aluminum has the highest thermal conductivity between common metals. At the same time, due to its capacity to reflect light, aluminum is a great insulator of heat transmitted by radiation.
