The strategic decision of CBA to
invest in power generation, so as to guarantee a minimum
50% self-generation ratio of the total electricity consumed
in its plant, has taken the Company to systematically
invest in the construction of hydroelectric power plants.
Today, CBA owns 16 of such plants (13 operating and
3 other under construction), with a total generation
capacity of 3.6 GWh/year.
The same level of importance attributed
to the process engineering activities related to the
generation of energy has prevailed also for environmental
questions, bearing in mind not only minimizing possible
impacts during the implementation of the power plants,
but also transforming these enterprises in preservation
poles of environment located around the reservoirs.
In this manner, the group of power
plants along Juquiá and Iporanga rivers allowed
the conservation of approximately 28,000 hectares of
Atlantic Forest, one of the most important genetic green houses
of biodiversity remaining in our territory. That area,
added to the 2,300 hectares donated by CBA to the State
Park of Jurupará, was transformed in one of the
most well preserved regions of Atlantic Forest of the
Ecological System of Serra do Mar, insuring the preservation
of native species of vegetation and animals.
